Green Ambassadors trip to the Rampion Windfarm 🎐🪁

On Tuesday the 24th September, Green ambassadors went down to Brighton to the Rampion visitor centre to learn about wind energy and Rampion’s Offshore wind farm. We had a few activities to complete, such as exploring the visitor centre, doing an experiment, and then litter picking on Brighton beach! Surprisingly, we didn’t find as much rubbish as expected on the beach, I later found out that this was because over 24 tonnes of rubbish had been cleared from the beach earlier in June by the Brighton and Hove City Council.

After, we went back into the centre to carry out an experiment to determine the optimum number of blades a wind turbine should have. Then, everyone’s favourite part, trying the VR experience that takes you to the actual offshore wind farm. This allowed us to experience the day-to-day job of the technicians and the real size of the wind turbines!

Then, we ate lunch on the beach, fed some hungry seagulls as well, before going to buy ice cream. Visiting the centre has helped us to learn more about renewable energy sources (energy sources that don’t run out unlike non-renewable energy sources) and has increased our awareness of climate change.

I would highly recommend you to visit the Rampion visitor centre, it is completely free to visit and there are many interactive activities to engage with (including the VR experience) that will increase your knowledge of our planet.
