Deers Leap 🦌 Y7’s

On Tuesday 16th September, 21 students headed to Deer’s Leap Centre near East Grinstead to spend a day with E3 Adventures. Three groups were created, and they took part in Crating, Fire building and Axe throwing. Each activity was challenging and always teaching about teamwork.

Activity 1: Crating is where two students try and stand on two crates that are being constantly added too. Some got as high as a dozen before the inevitable collapse due to severe wobbling. They are safely held on ropes by their colleagues and gently lowered back to the ground after a little airtime swing.

Activity 2: With Fire building, they had to collect sticks in three sizes, wire, pencil and finger thickness were then added to the fire bowl with some cotton wool. Using a flint stone lighter, sparks were sent cascading onto the cotton wool, and it caught fire! Then carefully adding the twigs a fire was started. Then we cooked marshmallows until they were super gooey and melted. The Teacher cooked popcorn in a tin, and we all enjoyed our homemade feast. Well Axe throwing is self-explanatory fun. After a thorough safety briefing each student had many goes at hitting the target culminating in a contest to hit the playing cards pinned to the target, Great fun!

At the end of the day everyone reflected on what they had learned and shared reflections. We had all learnt new skills, been challenged and made new friends.
